Poppy’s Story

On the 12th October 2022 I went to Hedon, East Yorkshire, to scan a female kitten that had been spotted roaming around Hedon garage for a while and looked hungry, thirsty and dirty. She had been taken in by a local resident and when I turned up at their house to scan Poppy, she was being pampered and loved by their daughter.

I scanned her for chip, which was detected straight away, and upon further investigation was registered as missing. Along with the help of a cat charity, we managed to retrieve some details and found her family, with whom she was reunited the following evening.

Poppy had gone missing from Barnsley, 76 miles from Hedon, where she was found, on 12th of July this year. She was found safe and well and returned to her owner purely because of her microchip, nothing else. If she had not been chipped it would have been almost impossible to reunite her with her family so quickly.

Please urge anyone you know with pets to get them chipped and make sure the chip details are up to date. If you have a microchipped pet please check the chip and details on your next vet visit. It could be the difference between being reunited with your beloved pet and never seeing them again.

If you find an animal you suspect as being lost or missing please try and get them scanned ASAP by contacting a Scan Angel, animal charity or a vet.
